Position Summary

Position is responsible for all manufacturing processes in a manufacturing facility.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Enforces strict safety guidelines and company standards
  • Ensures the safe use of equipment and schedules regular maintenance
  • Must attend bi-weekly safety walks
  • Must promote STOP for Supervision
  • Becomes an active member of the safety committee and attends monthly safety committee meetings
  • Must complete weekly STOP observations
  • Ensures work performed is in compliance with written safety policies and procedures
  • Conducts JSA’s before a new procedure/machine/product is implemented.

 

Production

  • Sets daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicates them to team members
  • Organizes workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules
  • Identifies issues in efficiency and suggest improvements

 

Supervision

  • Conducts self within the interest of the company at all times including time spent away from work.
  • Opens and closes facility when required. Must keep facility secured.
  • Oversees and coaches employees.
  • Provides direct supervision for production team members.
  • Enforces fair and equal disciplinary practices to all production team members.
  • Delivers timely discipline.
  • Ensures timely performance reviews are given to all production team members. Submits reports on performance and progress.  Supports performance improvement plans (PIPs).
  • Provides timely and accurate time, attendance, vacation, material usage and quantity completed documentation.
  • Ensures all preventive and emergency repairs to machinery and equipment are completed.
  • Assures each area is clean and that 5S principles are used throughout the facility
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are established and followed.
  • Resolves production issues on the floor.
    • Acknowledges urgency and when to move issues to the next level.
  • Resolves HR issues on the floor.
    • Recognizes when to escalate issues to Human Resources.
  • Inspects work performed to ensure compliance with quality and technical specifications.
    • Understands process to stop production and resolves issues going to the next level.

 

Training

  • Establishes a comprehensive cross training program to establish that each machine/area is staffed by a qualified team member.
  • Ensures work performed is in compliance with written ISO procedures.
  • Creates an atmosphere that promotes constant process improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or three to five years related experience and or training.  Prefer Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work comfortably with other departments.
  • Must have a lean manufacturing background.
  • Must have experience working and being fully responsible for a 2nd Shift.
  • Must be able to make decisive and independent decisions.
  • Experience supervising in a union environment a plus.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical customers and internal staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and analytical skills

 

COMPUTER SKILLS     

  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the ability to learn new software as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee works in the office of a manufacturing plant environment with normal exposure to noise, dust, and hazards associated with working in a high traffic, heavy machinery, manufacturing plant. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6 AM – 5 PM . Job requires overtime. Work hours may change at Management's discretion with prior notice.
