Position Summary

Manufacturing Engineer – Industrial, needed to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity in the manufacturing environment. The qualified candidate will provide technical support to production, introduce processes for new products, and execute capital projects.  This position will support and interact with fabrication, glass coating, and assembly operations as well as multiple departments across the organization. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Determine best methods for manufacturing products with maximum efficiency.
  • Design production layouts, select and optimize equipment, and develop new manufacturing processes that represent the most competitive cost alternative while maintaining acceptable quality levels.
  • Analyze and improve current manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and reduce production costs.
  • Implement safety and quality control measures to ensure a safe and consistent product.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing continuous improvement strategies within Manufacturing Operations to improve efficiencies and reduce waste to reduce cost.
  • Develop, justify, and support strategic capital projects.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement standardized work procedures to improve overall plant performance.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to identify areas for improvement in worker productivity.
  • Create and maintain documentation of manufacturing processes and equipment specifications.
  • Provide training and support to plant personnel on new equipment and processes.
  • Analyzing production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in plant performance.

Qualifications:

  • Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles is required as well as direct experience with facility layout, process design, PFMEA, and DOE.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels from the shop floor to Executive level to justify strategies and implement them effectively.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to project completion.
  • Effective problem solver, with ability to utilize analytical techniques to resolve conceptual issues. 
  • Able to make a shift in approach to developing creative solutions that will result in technology that can provide a technological edge over competition.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft office and AutoCAD.
  • Experience and understanding of MRP systems a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with Time Study techniques
  • Experience with DFA, FMEA, DOE and Six Sigma tools
  • Ability to work well under compressed time constraints.
  • Project management

Computer skills

  • Advanced level of knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

Physical demands

  • Walk, must be able to move about inside the manufacturing and office and occasionally on a construction site or outside of the manufacturing facility.
  • Use hands/fingers to feel, must be able to operate computers, machinery, dimensional equipment.
  • Sit and stand, must be able to work at a stationary desk that may require sitting or standing.  Standing on concrete floors and uneven terrain will be required frequently.
  • Climb and balance, must climb stairs and ladders.
  • Stoop, kneel and crouch or crawl.
  • Talk/hear, must be able to communicate with operators and management frequently and exchange accurate information.
  • Lift and carry weights of 50lbs.
