Responsibilities in this role include onboarding new customers, managing the sales order from inception through project completion, creating and driving manufacturing, engineering, and sourcing timelines, deliverables and execution to successfully complete all jobs in the time frame requested by our customers. This requires successful concurrent management of multiple projects. The Project Manager is ultimately responsible for the completion and accuracy of project information.
Responsibilities
Primary company point-of-contact for the customer and is responsible to inform all departments project requirements, schedule changes, etc.
Provide overall direction and responsibility for each project.
Manages and facilitates the VMB to communicate information flows through the company to achieve on-time completion of all required work.
Request and manage workflow to assure timely work completion in engineering and manufacturing. Negotiate and influence other departments as necessary to work through problems with the customer and/or internal resource problems that inhibit ability to meet customer needs.
Negotiate contract terms and conditions directly with the customer, including scope of work, staging area, schedule, etc.
Fiscal responsibility and accountability to secure credible revenue in alignment with the projects as quoted.
Communicate project milestones to Accounting to ensure the customer is invoiced in a timely manner. Assist Accounting in collection activities as required.
Develop submittal, shipping, and construction target schedule dates for each project supporting customer timelines and needs.,
Review in entirety each project’s plans & specs (including any addenda), to result in an accurate and complete “digestion” of the important parameters of the job requirements. Owner of the details.
Schedule and conduct each project’s Design Kick-off Meeting (KOM).
Follow-up with other departments ensure target dates will be met for each of your projects.
Review submittal drawings in conjunction with team engineer & detailer, and prepare a comprehensive submittal cover letter as necessary for each project being submitted to the customer.
Track approval packages to ensure customer returns them in time.
Review customer comments and red-lines for impact to CST upon approval return.
Identify any changes to our scope of work.
Advise customer of the change in scope and impact to timelines.
Estimate cost impact of scope change, set price, and pursue a Change Order with the customer.
Determine if any requested “confirms” have been left unaddressed by customer and, pursue timely resolution with customer as needed
Update VMB with all changes daily based upon customer requests for schedule changes, receipt of approved drawings, and shipment of jobs
Confirm with customer to ensure current and accurate information on the status of “back from approval” dates, required ship / construction start and completion dates, and other project milestone dates.
Formal Education & Certification
Degree in engineering, construction, business administration or equivalent work experience is desirable. PMP certification is preferred
Knowledge & Experience
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to understand and advantageously negotiate contract terms and conditions;
Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple construction projects simultaneously while maintaining or improving each project’s profitability.
Interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to interface effectively with external customers and to lead internal project teams to successful and profitable project completion.
Ability to read and interpret technical plans and specifications.
Experience with Word, Excel, Access, and scheduling programs.
Experience in managing sizeable construction projects as a Prime Contractor, a subcontractor, and/or as a vendor.
Familiarity with construction equipment and tools.
